Sturgeon Spearing 2010

January 12, 2010

There are only 32 more days until the opening day (February 13) of the 2010 sturgeon spearing season on Lake Winnebago!

This year, the harvest caps for Lake Winnebago are as follows:

Juvenile Females:  280
Adult Females:  666
Males:  800

Sturgeon spearing does require a specific license and only one sturgeon is allowed per licensed spearer (licenses were available until October 31, 2009).  The sturgeon must be 36 inches or longer in order to be a legal catch and must be registered.  Spearing is permitted between 6:30am-12:30pm during the season.

Before you head out for sturgeon spearing this season, read the 2010 Winnebago Sturgeon Spearing Regulation & Information booklet provided by the Wisconsin DNR–it provides all of the important rules for this season of sturgeon spearing.  Even if you’re not spearing, it’s an interesting read.
