Winnebago Sturgeon Harvest Report for Thursday, February 18

Here is the final update for the 2010 sturgeon spearing season.  It has been a great season with beautiful weather, clear water, great ice, and record-breaking sturgeon.  Check back for photos and video tonight–I will be posting an interview with DNR Fisheries Technician Bob Olynyk from Wavlery Beach. He commented on the season, explains the stages of maturity (F2, etc.) and white sturgeon, and narrates registering a sturgeon at the station.

“The 2010 sturgeon spearing seasons on both the Upriver Lakes and Lake Winnebago ended today, Thursday February 18, at 12:30 PM. Total of 163 fish registered today including 4 fish larger than 100 pounds.

Totals for the day Thursday February 18, 2010:
Lake Winnebago:  26 juvenile females; 73 adult females; 45 males; TOTAL of 144
Upriver Lakes:  4 juvenile females; 4 adult females; 11; TOTAL of 19
SYSTEM-WIDE:  30 juvenile females; 77 adult females; 56 males; TOTAL of 163

Total for the Season:
SYSTEM-WIDE:  270 juvenile females; 801 adult females; 749 males; TOTAL of 1820 (including 82 fish 100 pounds or larger)”
