Sturgeon Spearing Shanties, Lake Winnebago 2010

March 31, 2010

Sturgeon Spearing Shanties, Lake Winnebago 2010. Archival inkjet print. 44 x 54 in.  (Copyright 2010)

After hours of preparation and research, days of shooting, and more hours editing I have finally finished my photo comprised of 143 shanties that will hang in my BFA photo show (keep in mind the colors are a bit off online!).  If you’re in the area, our UWM show titled “LEVEL” will be hanging in BYO Studio Gallery in Milwaukee from April 15-May 9.  There will be an opening reception on April 16 from 6-9pm and closing reception May 7 also from 6-9pm.  The gallery is open Thursday-Sunday from 1-5pm, then the bar is open 5-close.

Like I’ve said before, this group of photos is just the beginning of a project that I hope to complete over the next few years.  I will continue documenting the sturgeon spearing seasons and other related events throughout the year and plan on compiling a selection of photographs into a book.  Again, thank you all those who contributed to this project including photographers Corey Gaffer and Lauren Fischer and videographer Brendon Stefancic, my classmates and professor Gina Rymarcsuk, and of course my sturgeon-spearing dad, Joe Wisnet.  A special thanks to Ron Bruch and the Wisconsin DNR.
