66 days!

December 8, 2010

With only 66 days left before the 2011 sturgeon spearing season starts, I decided today was a good day to get out my camera and visit the shores of Lake Winnebago.  It was a beautiful, calm day but cold–not sure what the temperature was, but it’s 14 degrees right now!  It looks like some ice is beginning to form on the lake but it’ll take awhile to freeze over solid.  I’m hoping the weather this year is similar to last year during the season.  There was plenty of sun, little wind, and for the most part the temperature was decent.  We’ll just have to wait and see what mother nature has in mind.

I haven’t heard any news on the Sturgeon for Tomorrow banquets, but will get info posted asap.  The sturgeon spearing regulations should also be coming out in a few weeks.  I’ll be updated the blog more frequently now as we get closer to opening day.  Check back for updates on lake ice conditions, sturgeon events, regulations, news, and of course…plenty of photos.  I’ll leave you with this photo I took earlier today of the lake from Jefferson Park in Menasha.
