1 Week!

February 5, 2011

Only 1 week left before the opening day of the 2011 sturgeon spearing season!  The lake will be busy this week, especially Thursday and Friday once everyone starts cutting their holes.  I’m excited to hit the ice Thursday to start photographing the season.  Looks like the weather should be pretty good, although that can change by then–should be partly sunny with temperatures in the teens.  I’m going to make it out to the lake this weekend and will post an update and some photos of the action on the ice.  Just remember to be careful out there!

The Sturgeon for Tomorrow Northern Half Chapter Banquet (North Shore/Darboy) is today, February 5!  Call Wayne Hoelzel at 920.725.1206 for more info.

I saw this on Action 2 News the other night–be careful on the ice as there have been a few problems with crack in the ice:  “Crack on Lake Winnebago Plagues Fisherman

Black Lake in Michigan has been in the news a lot lately–their sturgeon spearing season begins today:  “‘Darkhouse anglers’ grab their spears in search of elusive sturgeon on Black Lake” and “Quota change a positive sign of population rebound in Black Lake” (The quota is 7 sturgeon!)
